General Information

Important Points

  • To apply for Passport Services at the Mission/Consulate in Germany it is necessary to fill up the application online.
  • The Online application form is available at http://passport.gov.in/nri/
  • All Passports will be issued only after verifying credentials of the applicants.
  • Consular surcharge of Euro 2.00 shall be levied on all consular services.

Note: Passport can be re-issued one year before expiry of current passport.

PROCEDURE AND DOCUMENTATION FOR PASSPORT SERVICES:

1. Re-issue of passport on EXPIRATION OF VALIDITY

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original Passport with copy of same, copy of residence permit.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 62 (Euro 60 + Euro 2)
  • Jumbo passport Fee- EUR 77 (Euro 75 + Euro 2)

2. Re-issue of passport due to EXHAUSTION OF PAGES

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original Passport and copy of the present passport, copy of residence permit.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).

Note:

  1. Fresh passport for 10-year validity will be issued instead of additional booklet.
  2. It is necessary to submit the current passport at the time of applying for re-issue of passport which will be cancelled and returned to the applicant. In case, existing passport cannot be submitted to the Consulate, an undertaking must be submitted with the application giving reasons of non-submission of current passport.

  • Jumbo passport Fee - EUR 77 (Euro 75 + Euro 2)

3. Duplicate passport in lieu of LOST OR DAMAGED PASSPORT

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 7 recent passport-size photographs (if the applicant does not have a Residence Permit) and 4 recent passport-size photographs (if the applicant holds a Residence Permit)measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Photocopy of the lost passport. Passport in original in case of damaged passport.
  • Police report, in original, for the lost passport.
  • Letter from Auslaenderbehoerde (local German Immigration authority) stating reason for stay permit (for persons whose passport does not contain valid visa for Germany).
  • An Affidavit regarding loss of passport/damaged passport.
    (In case of frequent loss/damage of passport, additional penalty will be separately charged and decided on a case to case basis).
  • Two witnesses in case of lost/damaged passport (Affidavit to be submitted).
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.

Note:

  1. Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged will be issued only Machine-Readable Passport. Issuance of Machine Readable Passport may take minimum of 15 working days. Under no circumstances hand written passports will be issued. New passport in lieu of lost or damaged passport will be issued for full validity of 10 years, subject to availability of visa/residence permit.
  2. Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged and returning to India can be issued an Emergency Certificate (handwritten), if they desire so. An Emergency Certificate (one way travel document) which authorises an Indian national to enter India, is issued to a citizen of India whose passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged and to whom new passport cannot be issued immediately. This service is primarily extended with the objective of ensuring his/her return to India. The final decision of issuing an Emergency Certificate is subject to a detailed examination by the Embassy. It might also require certain clearances from the concerned authorities in India and/or the concerned Indian Missions/Posts abroad. Documents required for issuance of an Emergency Certificate are :
  • Copy of lost passport, and Residence Permit/Visa.
  • Proof of the reason on the grounds of which Emergency Certificate is being sought.
  • Police report, if Passport is lost.
  • Confirmed air ticket for return to India.
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 112 (Euro 110 + Euro 2)
  • Jumbo passport Fee - EUR 132.00 (Euro 130 + Euro 2)
  • In addition, EUR12 will be charged for each affidavit.
  • Emergency Certificate Fee - EUR14 (Euro 12 + Euro 2)

4. Passport for CHILDREN BELOW 18 YEARS OF AGE

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency)
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • Attested copies of parents' passports, copy of residence permit.
  • Note: The passport will be valid for five years.
  • Fee - EUR 42 (Euro 40 + Euro 2)
  • Note: Eligible for Full validity from 15 years of age.
  • The passport Fee for full validity passport is EUR 62 (EUR 60+ EUR 2)

5. Passport for CHILDREN BETWEEN 15-18 YEARS OF AGE

  • Same requirements as above.
  • Note: The passport will be valid for ten years.
  • Fee - EUR 62 (Euro 60 + Euro 2)

6. Passport to a NEW BORN CHILD

  • Prescribed Application form. Thumb impression of the child to put in the signature box.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light colored background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Birth certificate in original from the local German authorities along with its copy.
  • Attested marriage certificate of parents.
  • Original passports of parents along with its copies, copy of residence permit.
  • Letter from German authorities confirming that the child has not been issued any German document. 
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Filled up form for registration of birth.

    Click on the option (Registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian consulate under section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955).
  • Note:For a child born in Germany to be registered as an Indian citizen the application must be made within one year of the child's birth on the prescribed form. At least one of the child's parents must be an Indian citizen at the time of applying. Enclose passports of both parents and a full version birth certificate of the child with photocopies of the birth certificate along with the application. In case more than one year has elapsed since the birth of child, an affidavit needs to be submitted stating that the child has not acquired German nationality. Local authorities should also confirm non-acquisition of German Nationality by the child. The passport issued is valid for five years.
  • Applicant shall apply in person as the Declaration and L-Form are to be signed in front of the Consular officer.
  • Fee - EUR 42 (Euro 40+ Eur 2)    + EUR 27, 00 (Eur 25.00+ Eur 2.00) for Birth Certificate
  • In addition, EUR12.00 will be charged for the affidavit.

7. Replacement of booklet due to CHANGE IN APPEARANCE

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm withoutborder and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original passport.
  • Affidavit.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • A fresh passport will be issued. Applicant has to apply in person as he is required to sign the affidavit in front of consular officer.
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 62.00 (Euro 60.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • Jumbo passport- EUR 77.00 (Euro 75.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • In addition, EUR12.00 will be charged for the affidavit.

8. Replacement of passport due to CHANGE OF NAME after marriage, remarriage or divorce.

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light colored background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original passport.
  • Attested copies of marriage certificate.
  • Affidavit duly signed by husband and wife (Hindu marriage act).
  • A joint marriage photograph of both husband and wife in case marriage certificate is not attested.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • Divorcees should apply with attested divorce papers if the divorce took place in India.
  • Applicant has to apply in person as he is required to sign the affidavit in front of consular officer.
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 62.00 (Euro 60.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • Jumbo passport- EUR 77.00 (Euro 75.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • In addition, EUR12.00 will be charged for each affidavit.
