At the invitation of the President of India, H.E Dr.
Horst Koehler, President of the Federal Republic of Germany and H.E. Mrs.
Koehler will be on a state visit to India from February 1-7, 2010. President
Koehler will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including Ministers,
senior officials, representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry,
businessmen and media.
During the visit, President Koehler will have meetings with the President and
the Vice- President of India and will hold talks with the Prime Minister. The
External Affairs Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chairperson
of the UPA will call on President Koehler. A state banquet will be hosted by
the President in honour of President Koehler.
President Koehler will be visiting Pune and Mumbai from February 4-6, 2009.
He will meet the Governor of Maharashtra and the Governor RBI. President
Koehler will also meet with the Indian and German business community, media,
opinion makers etc. during his stay in India.
India and Germany have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations. Today, Indo-German
relations which flow out of a commitment to shared values of democracy,
pluralism, diversity and the rule of law are broad-based and diverse. The
strategic partnership forged between the two countries in 2001 has further
strengthened the ties.
The bilateral relations between India and Germany are also marked by rapidly
growing economic and trade ties. Germany is India's biggest trade partner in
the EU with a bilateral trade of €13.4 in 2008. Germany is India's seventh largest investor cumulatively and India's second largest partner for technology
collaborations globally. India and Germany cooperate well in various
multilateral fora and have close consultations and engagements through
institutionalized dialogue mechanisms in areas as diverse as energy,
vocational education, urban infrastructure, health and strategic cooperation.
