The Indian Armed Forces ore one of the largest, most experienced and highly
capable forces in the world. The forces comprising Army, Navy, Air Force and
Coast Guard, operate in diverse terrain ranging from high altitude mountains,
the plains, sandy desert, dense inhospitable forest regions and over the oceans
to the South pf India. Besides military operations, the forces have vast
expertise in UN Peace Keeping operations, Counter Insurgency and Disaster
Management.
The Ministry of Defence comprises four main departments ie, Departments of
Defence, Defence Production, Defence Research & Development and ExServicemen
Welfare. 47 Defence Production and Ordnance Factories manufacture a variety of
equipment and stores for the Defence Services. Information on the MoD, Armed
